Electrical engineering

The electrical systems are primarily used for the power supply of track or lineside installations. They are indispensable for train availability and operation. They range from:

• Overhead traction current supply through
• Safe operation of lighting or communications systems, such as passenger information systems on platforms
• To a simple power supply for flashing lights at level crossings

The energy required within the boundaries of the Municipality of Halle is supplied at 15/20 kV 50 Hz through a medium-tension grid by the municipal utilities, stepped down at two large substations to the low domestic voltage of 230/400 V 50 Hz and distributed through several cable distributors and installations according to requirements.

As the Halle hub enjoys a relatively central, densely populated urban location, it is, of course, difficult to generate the necessary traction current for trains at a major power station. For this reason, the entire catenary system will be supplied with current from the substations in Niemberg, Eilenburg, Leipzig-Wahren, Grosskorbetha und Dörstwitz. The necessary interconnectors will take the form of overhead lines, meeting at the new Halle sectioning point.
