Coburg Connecting Curves
The city of Coburg is bypassed to the east by the new line. Single-track connecting curves are planned at the intersections with the Lichtenfels-Coburg and Coburg-Sonnenberg lines, ensuring the inclusion of Coburg.
Connection - Coburg South (Niederfüllbach)
The connection between the new Ebensfeld-Erfurt line and the city of Coburg is to the south via the single-track Niederfüllbach connecting curve to the existing Coburg-Lichtenfels line.
The single-track connecting curve is connected by the Füllbach tunnel beneath the Höhnberg tunnel via the Füllbach railway overpass and the B303 railway overpass.
In the area of the B303 railway overpass, the B303 main road has been lowered whilst maintaining road traffic. Further along the new Ebensfeld -Erfurt line to the north the proposed double-track line crosses the Füllbach valley between Niederfüllbach in the east and Roth am Forst in the west in the district of Coburg (Bavaria) at a height of approx. 40 m.
Coburg North (Dörfles-Esbach)
Further along the new Ebensfeld–Erfurt line to the north, extensive earthworks have been carried out between Dörfles-Esbach and Oeslau parallel to the BAB A 73 highway.
Coburg Station
Coburg Station is located between Sonneberg in Thuringia to the north and Lichtenfels in Franconia to the south. The connection to the city of Coburg is part of the new Ebensfeld - Erfurt line. Conversion work is planned to be carried out at Coburg Station.
The various different options for this conversion work are currently being investigated.
In the future, long-distance trains too will stop at Coburg.
