Forestry measures
To compensate for the encroachment of the new line into wooded areas of the Thuringian Forest, the conservation measures designed to compensate for damage to the environment and replace losses also include comprehensive forestry measures. The forestry measures include transforming spruce woodland into mixed deciduous woodland and creating pure deciduous woodland. In order to create areas in which the deciduous trees can be planted, coniferous trees have to be removed first.
In some cases, individual coniferous trees alongside streams are being removed in order to improve the quality of the upper reaches of these streams by increasing their intake of organic substances (nutrients) and reducing shade.
