This is a deep, undeveloped, V-shaped valley with steep sides and an almost symmetrical cross-section. The Oelze flows through the wooded Oelze Valley, and the road from Katzhütte to Altenfeld (Harztalstraße) runs along the foot of the south side of the valley.
