On the south side, the River Grümpen, which has wooded banks, takes its natural course, and on the north side there is the K34 district road. It is joined by a smaller side valley to the north. The B89 main road and the Eisfeld-Sonneberg railway line run along the north side of this side valley from east to west. In this section, the new line is laid out with a radius of 6,640 metres with adjoining transition curves. The line rises with a gradient of 1.25% from south to north along the Grümpen Viaduct.
