The new line runs east of Coburg in this section. The town is linked to the new line by two connecting curves at Niederfühlbach and Dörfles-Esbach. A bridge 868 metres long with a maximum height of 30 metres takes the line across the Itz Valley between Dörfles-Esbach and Rödental.
