The southern portal of the Brandkopf Tunnel, which is 1,493 metres long, is located on the northern side of the Wohlrose Valley.

It goes under Wohlroser Berg at a maximum depth of 120 metres below the surface, followed by a depression, where it is 50 metres below the surface. It then goes under Vorderer Brandkopf (height: 655 metres) at a maximum depth of around 105 metres from the surface and emerges from the mountain on the south side of the Schobse Valley. The land above the tunnel is mostly managed forest.
