Line lot 5 is subdivided into two parts. The first part, the section across open country, starts after 279.923 kilometres (municipality of Döllnitz) in planning approval section (PFA) 2.5 and continues until 284.552 kilometres (the beginning of the Gröbers junction).

Part two is the Gröbers junction (284.552 to 286.905 kilometres) in planning approval section (PFA) 3.1 at the exit in the direction of the Halle airport/Leipzig station.

No construction measures have yet been carried out on the open line. On the other hand, key parts of the Gröbers junction were constructed from 2000 to 2002.

The construction work started in August 2010 to complete line lot 5 includes earthworks and work on shoring and bracing, foundations, drainage, reinforced concrete, steelwork, sealing, corrosion protection, road-building, landscaping and line equipment.
