Line construction in line lot 2
In line lot 2 the earthwork is being carried out for planning approval sections PFA 1.1 and PFA 1.2 from Erfurt-Vieselbach (197.889 kilometres) to the Scherkonde Viaduct (215.937 kilometres). Around 440,000 m³ of soil has to be removed from cuttings. Around 740,000 m³ is required for embankments. In order to use the cohesive, clayey soil that is extracted for embankments, it has to be improved using binding agents.
At the beginning of the work, a construction road was built along the entire length of the line lot. After the completion of the earthwork, this construction road alongside the track will be reduced to a width of 3.50 metres.
In connection with the earthwork, a number of rainwater retention basins are being created and nine new railway bridges and two new road bridges are being built. In addition, the relaying of the OFL 12 long-distance water main is part of this measure.
Before work started, extensive archaeological excavations were carried out because the new line largely takes the same course as the ancient Roman road Via Regia and the wine and copper trading routes.
