The Tragberg Tunnel is located between the municipalities of Langewiesen and Gehren in the administrative district of Ilmkreis (Thuringia). Tunnelling for the Tragberg Tunnel started at the south portal in a northerly direction using explosives and excavators. The excavated material was made into rubble in the tunnel and transported directly via the south portal to the nearby temporary dump.
