German Unity Transport Project 8

 Nuremberg – Erfurt – Halle/Leipzig – Berlin

Environmental planning

The effects on the surrounding environment have been examined and evaluated in the course of planning so that the resultant compensatory measures can be taken. Not only the effects on flora, fauna, water and soil, but also the interests of people have been considered.

In particular, the demands of water legislation, both in terms of surface water, e.g. the Bucher and Bisloher streams and the groundwater conditions, have been examined and considered during preparation for construction. Further hydrological data was gathered within the scope of a supplementary exploration programme conducted in 2010/2011, in the course of which existing anthropological influences on water quality were subjected to laboratory examination, in addition to groundwater levels and links between the water table and surface water.

The local flora and fauna were mapped, included in planning and given consideration in subsequent building and compensatory measures for the surface sections and areas required for construction. Detail of a flood map for the Bucher and Bisloher streams.
