German Unity Transport Project 8

 Nuremberg – Erfurt – Halle/Leipzig – Berlin

Rescue plan

A stand-alone escape and rescue plan has been drawn up for the freight tunnel and adjacent sections of line. It specifies the provision of an emergency exit every 500 metres. The emergency exits will be independent structures with their own shaft, connected to the tunnel bores. They will have an airlock, fire hoses, etc
