Rescue plan
A stand-alone escape and rescue plan has been drawn up for the freight tunnel and adjacent sections of line. It specifies the provision of an emergency exit every 500 metres. The emergency exits will be independent structures with their own shaft, connected to the tunnel bores. They will have an airlock, fire hoses, etc

Access to the emergency exit buildings for the emergency services will be via public roads and paths and will be upgraded to comply with modern European standards. There will also be rescue areas at the portals.

Train crews will be able to contact the control centre by radio or internal emergency intercoms if a breakdown occurs. Tunnel safety equipment will comply with the applicable regulations and directives of DB AG.
